11/04/2004    Biopharmaceutical Company Latest Investment by MC Life Sciences Ventures
MC Life Sciences Ventures (MCLSV) joined a Series C syndicate led by venture capitalist InterWest Partners which resulted in a total investment of $25.7 million in BioMimetic Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a Franklin, Tennessee-based company established in 2001. MCLSV participated together with Burrill & Company, among other investors. Burrill & Company is a life-sciences merchant bank in which the MCLSV itself has invested. The investment in BioMimetic was the first opportunity for both Burrill and MCLSV to make an equity investment in the same biotech company. MCLSV was created to consolidate the life sciences-related investments of Mitsubishi International Corporation (MIC) and its parent Mitsubishi Corporation. BioMimetic Pharmaceuticals focuses on developing human therapeutics for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. Among its product candidates, for instance, is GEM 21S™, a synthetic regeneration system being developed to treat periodontally-related bone defects. GEM 21S™ combines a recombinant human tissue growth factor with a resorbable synthetic bone matrix. This past summer, GEM 21S™ received a unanimous-approval recommendation from the FDA's Dental Advisory Panel. BioMimetics Pharmaceuticals plans to use the financing raised in this round for preclinical and clinical development of its orthopedic applications, as well as to add personnel and expand its facilities to include space for research and development.
10/10/2004    MIC President & CEO Addresses Topic of Foreign Direct Investment in U.S. at 28th Joint Meeting of the Southeast U.S.-Japan and Japan-U.S. Southeast Associations in Atlanta, Georgia
Motoatsu Sakurai, President & CEO of MIC, addressed the 28th meeting of Southeast U.S.-Japan and Japan-U.S. Southeast Associations, which was established in 1975 to promote trade, investment, understanding and friendship between Japan and the seven states of the southeast U.S.: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Close to 450 delegates attended the meeting, many from chambers of commerce and state and local government -- including departments of commerce and economic development -- as well as from private industry. Mr. Sakurai addressed trends in foreign direct investment in the U.S., focusing particularly on the states of the southeast.
10/07/2004    Parent Mitsubishi Corporation's Charity in Europe Funds Efforts to Save Last Adriatic Dolphins
The Mitsubishi Corporation Fund for Europe and Africa (MCFEA), which has provided support to the Gesellschaft zur Rettung der Delphine (German Society for Dolphin Conservation) since 2003, recently completed hand over of a project vehicle, a trailer and photographic equipment vital to the ongoing success of the Society's efforts to save the few remaining dolphins living in Croatian waters year-round. The Society's research team, drawn from the veterinary faculty of the University of Zagreb, hopes to establish a dolphin conservation center along the coast of the Adriatic. Along with Julie Rogers of MCFEA, James E. Brumm, the President of the Mitsubishi International Corporation Foundation, was present for the hand over of vehicles and equipment. Mr. Brumm is also a trustee of MCFEA.
09/08/2004    President of Forest Trends Addresses Status and Potential of Ecosystem Service Markets for Conservation at Mitsubishi International Corporation Foundation Semi–annual Environmental Breakfast in New York City
Michael Jenkins, President of Forest Trends, an environmental non-profit which seeks to maintain and restore forest ecosystems by promoting incentives that diversify trade in the forest sector, was the invited guest speaker at the MC Foundation for the Americas's Fall 2004 Environmental Breakfast. The event, the twentieth such breakfast hosted by the MC Foundation for the Americas for environmentalists, educators and others committed to environmental education, will focus on Forest Trends' unique perspective on the intersection of the economy and sustainable development of the environment. The breakfast was hosted by Earth Pledge, a non–profit committed to identifying and promoting ways to restore the balance between human and natural systems.
09/07/2004    Mitsubishi International Corporation Affiliate Red Diamond Capital Acquires Leading Regional Extruder of Polyethylene Film
Red Diamond Capital, a private equity fund affiliated with Mitsubishi International Corporation, has acquired Allied Extruders, Inc., a Long Island City, New York based extruder of polyethylene film. Serving customers in the flexible packaging and plastic film converting industries, Allied produces monolayer and co–extruded polyethylene films in a variety of different thicknesses, widths, strengths, colors and levels of clarity. It focuses on short runs of high quality, custom–produced film with rapid delivery requirements. Red Diamond and Allied are already seeking to identify add–on acquisitions.
08/30/2004    Ashland Inc. Signs Agreement to Sell Its Ingestibles Business to Mitsubishi International Corporation Parent Mitsubishi Corporation
Ashland Inc. (NYSE:ASH), a Fortune 500 transportation, construction, chemical, and petroleum company headquartered in Covington, Kentucky, has agreed to sell its ingestibles business, including food and beverage additives and pharmaceutical actives and excipients, to Mitsubishi Corporation by the end of 2004. The purchase, made through Mitsubishi International Corporation (MIC), adds resources to MC's food ingredients business, already at nearly $500 million in sales worldwide. MIC has established a new subsidiary, MC Food Ingredients, Inc., to handle this business. MIC also will work with Ashland to manage a seamless transition, during which Ashland will continue to provide warehousing, customer service and select administrative support, in order to ensure minimal disruption to suppliers, customers and employees.
08/12/2004    Medical Device Developer Completes Public Stock Offering
Stereotaxis, Inc. (STXS), part of the portfolio of investments that have been made by MC Life Sciences Ventures, went public on August 12, 2004. Stereotaxis designs therapeutic solutions for interventional medicine through computerized navigation and control. The Stereotaxis Magnetic Navigation System allows doctors to more effectively move devices such as catheters and stents through blood vessels and through the chambers of the heart. All major components of the Stereotaxis System have received regulatory marketing approval in the U.S. and Europe. Stereotaxis was founded in 1990 and is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. MC Life Sciences Ventures (MCLSV) is a corporate venture capitalist and business incubator established by Mitsubishi International Corporation and parent Mitsubishi Corporation. MCLSV's mandate is to identify technology-driven companies where the investment relationship also offers opportunities for creating new business, including identifying joint venture partners and distributors in Japan, as well as transferring technology to the Japanese market.
07/01/2004    Mitsubishi International Corporation Spins Off IT Services and Solutions
A wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi International Corporation (MIC), MIC Business Solutions, Inc. (MIBS), was established in July 2004 as a spin–off of MIC's information systems division. MIBS will provide information and communications technology consulting, as well as system and network integration and ERP related services, focusing mainly on medium–sized Japanese corporations with a U.S. presence. MIBS will support business development for MIC and approximately 50 of MIC's subsidiaries and affiliates in the U.S. In addition, MIBS has launched a pilot project involving radio frequency identification technology (RFID) applications, offering logistics consulting, field engineering and systems integration.
06/07/2004    Mitsubishi International Corporation Introduces New Version of DVI Interface Cables at InfoComm 2004
Mitsubishi International Corporation (MIC) will exhibit at InfoComm 2004, a tradeshow targeted at technology buyers and service providers in the professional audiovisual systems industry worldwide. Headquartered at Booth #5018, MIC will focus on a new fiber DVI cable which, because it bundles all electronic and optical aspects of the cable within the cable connectors, enhances the use of video apparatus with DVI interfaces. InfoComm 2004, which takes place in Atlanta, Georgia from June 9th through June 11th, is expected to attract more than 20,000 attendees.

Mitsubishi International Corporation(MIC) is attending Drupa 2004, the world's leading trade show for the graphic arts and printing industries. MIC's sales team is attending with its partner, Mitsubishi Hi-Tec Paper, a manufacturing subsidiary of Mitsubishi Paper Mills Ltd. of Japan, which has two paper mills in Germany. MIC and its partner are showcasing a full range of thermal papers, inkjet media and carbonless papers. Their booth at the show, which runs from May 6 through May 19th in Dusseldorf is C 04 in Hall 9.
04/15/2004    Mitsubishi International Corporation Foundation Lead Funder for Restoration of Bronx Riverwalk
On April 15th, the Wildlife Conservation Society celebrated the opening of the "Mitsubishi Riverwalk". In the MC Foundation for the Americas's 2003 funding cycle, it made a gift of $500,000, its largest since the foundation was established in 1992, to the Wildlife Conservation Society, an organization renowned throughout the world for working to promote environmental conservation and preserve biodiversity. The grant served as the lead funding for the restoration and conservation of a plot of land that runs along the Bronx River at the Bronx Zoo in New York. A massive undertaking involving the removal of invasive plants, replanting of native ones and restoring wildlife habitats, the project also featured the installation of educational exhibits and graphics describing the river system, as well as its impact of local development and ways to restore the river and fight pollution. Two portfolio companies of MC Life Sciences Ventures (MCLSV) have "gone public" this spring. MCLSV consolidates the investments in life sciences of both Mitsubishi International Corporation (MIC) and its parent Mitsubishi Corporation. The two new public companies are Memory Pharmaceuticals Corporation (MEMY) and Santarus, Inc. (SNTS). Founded in 1997, Memory Pharmaceuticals develops innovative drugs for treating diseases of the central nervous system, such as Alzheimers. It is headquartered in Montvale, New Jersey, and went public on April 5, 2004. Santarus, a specialty pharmaceutical company headquartered in San Diego, acquires, develops and commercializes products which help prevent and treat gastrointestinal diseases and disorders. Founded in 1996, it went public on April 1, 2004. As a corporate venture capitalist and incubator, the MC Life Sciences Ventures identifies technology-driven companies where the investment relationship also offers opportunities for creating new business, including identifying joint venture partners and distributors in Japan, as well as transferring technology to the Japanese market.

MC Life Sciences Ventures, Inc. (MCLSV) has invested $1 million in Omnisonics Medical Technologies, Inc., which is developing treatments for cardiovascular occlusive disease using proprietary acoustic technology. The investment in the Wilmington, Massachusetts-based medical technology company was the first for MC Life Science Ventures. MCLSV was created to consolidate life sciences-related investments by Mitsubishi International Corporation (MIC) and its parent, Mitsubishi Corporation. As a corporate venture capitalist and incubator, MCLSV will identify technology-driven companies where the investment relationship also offers opportunities for creating new business opportunities. These include identifying joint venture partners or distributors in Japan and transferring technology to the Japanese market. While MCLSV's reach is global, it will have a particular focus on the North American market.

Red Diamond Capital, a private equity fund affiliated with Mitsubishi International Corporation, and Century Park Capital Partners, a Los Angles-based private equity firm, have jointly acquired Hi-Tech Rubber, Inc. Effective October 1st, Mitsubishi International Corporation (MIC) has begun to sell and distribute Takeda Kirin's ribotide flavor enhancers, Riken's distilled monoglycerides and specialty food emulsifiers, Fuso brand malic acid, MSG and other high quality food ingredient products. Sales of these products will be handled through MIC Specialty Chemicals Inc., which has sales offices in New Jersey and Wilmington, North Carolina. The products will be serviced through a network of warehouses in New Jersey, Oregon, Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto and Dallas. These new products will allow MIC to extend its service and sales further into the flavor, bakery and beverage industries, as well as strengthen the market-driven focus of MIC Specialty Chemicals Inc. A subsidiary of MIC and headquartered in Somerset, New Jersey, MIC Specialty Chemicals Inc. was established in October 2002 to increase market penetration and operational flexibility for the specialty chemicals-related activities of MIC.

Mitsubishi International Corporation (MIC) today announced that it will oversee the acquisition by Aristech Acrylics, a major producer of seamless continuous-cast acrylic sheet, of Avonite, Inc,.a leader in acrylic sheet technology. MIC's role will ensure the smooth transition and steady growth of the newly formed business to be called Avonite, Inc. Expected to close by July 31, 2003, the acquisition of Avonite and the merger of the two companies will position the combined entity with a full line of acrylic and polyester solid surface sheet products which complement Aristech Acrylics' thermoformable and general-purpose acrylic sheet products.
